Music Perception

Payment Policy

Tuition pays for a specific time slot reserved each week. I prepare lesson plans and arrange my schedule according to the assumption that the student will show up for lessons. If that student does not show up, arrives late, or does not cancel at least one day prior to their lesson, I will not make-up that time or issue a refund since I was prepared to teach. Payment is still due for a no-show lesson.

•    Tuition can be paid on a semester or monthly plan.
•    Payments are due a week before the first lesson of the month or semester, and payments received after the 10th of the month will be charged a $15 late fee. Unless other arrangements are made, lessons will be suspended until payments are current. Payments more than 90 days in arrears will be turned over to a collection agency.
•    If payment is due on a day with no lessons, payment is still due and can be mailed or dropped off at my house. See the Calendar for specific due dates.
•    Statements will now be mailed home or emailed each billing period indicating the due date.
•    Payments can be made in the form of cash (preferably exact change), personal check, money order, or cashier’s check. I now accept credit card and debit payments through Paypal.

•   If a personal check is returned NSF, I reserve the right to no longer accept that form of payment. The cost charged to me by the bank for the NSF in addition to the amount of the check will have to be covered by cash, money order, or cashier’s check.

•    Payments can be mailed to 828 Fulton St Wausau, WI 54403, or can be brought into lessons. Do not mail payments to Washington St, and do not mail cash or leave cash on my front porch or mailbox, as it may be stolen.
•    Books are not included in tuition and are due upon receipt. Due to strict copyright laws, students are required to own original sheet music.
•    Accompanying (apart from recitals) is not included in tuition. Payment is due prior to the event (not the day of, please) and is non-refundable.
•    If a student shows up to 2 consecutive lessons without their books or if their books are severely damaged they will be given new books at the next lesson and charged due upon receipt. Please keep books away from young children and pets.
•    CDs or books loaned to students that are lost, damaged, or not returned will be billed to the student to replace.
•    There will be no refunds.

Attendance Policy

•    One lesson per semester will be rescheduled on designated Make-Up days. In order to qualify for a make-up lesson, students must inform me of a cancellation no less than 1 day prior to the lesson time. If a student is sick or there is some other emergency, then notify me as soon as possible.
•    Students who are no-shows for 2 consecutive lessons will be removed from the schedule. Students who do not show for 3 lessons overall in a semester will be removed from the schedule on the 3rd no-show.
•    See Teaching Calendar for Make-Up Days.
•    Make-ups must be done in the semester the lesson was missed or be forfeited, except if otherwise noted on the Teaching Schedule.
•    I will remind students to schedule a make-up, but it is the student’s responsibility to schedule it.
•    There are no make-ups for missed Summer Semester lessons.
•    If a lesson is missed by the teacher, it will always be made up.
•    I may on occasion have to reschedule a lesson time due to performances or rehearsals. These changes will always be made in advance for another mutually agreed upon time.
•    Lessons that fall on Labor Day (Sept. 7), Teacher Convention (Oct. 29-30), Thanksgiving Week (Nov. 23-27), Christmas Break (Dec. 21-Jan. 3), Spring Break (Mar. 27-Apr. 4), & Memorial Day (May 31) have already been considered in the schedule and do not need to be made up.
•    Any other holidays or days off given by the schools are not considered days off from lessons. Lessons will occur at their regularly scheduled time.
•    Lesson Swap: If a student needs to reschedule a lesson but has already used their make-up lesson, they can swap with another student. They are to call other students no less than 48 hours in advance of either lesson day, whichever comes first. Once a student is found who is willing to swap, the requesting student must notify me no later than 24 hours in advance of the change. This will allow me time to prepare for the lesson. Students can swap lessons as often as needed, but if there are excessive changes it may be advisable to find a new permanent time. Lesson swap schedules will be given on the first day of lessons each semester. Students asked to swap are not obligated to do so. There is no Lesson Swapping in the summer.

Termination Policy

Students pay for a particular time slot to be reserved for them. If a student has reserved a time slot I will not give that slot away to another student.  If a student quits on the day of their lesson, however, there is no way for me to quickly fill that slot. Furthermore, I have most likely turned away other students because that time was not available.  As a result, I require a written 30-day cancellation notice.

I have learned many things over the years from various wonderful teachers. There are seasons with a teacher and then it is time to move on. When this time comes for you, it should not cause hard feelings between teacher and student.

Communication is extremely important to the learning process. If there are problems or situations of which I have not been made aware, then I won’t be able to respond to them. Please let me know of any issues before deciding to quit lessons. I understand, however, that sometimes the best solution for all is to part ways.

During the 30 day cancellation period, I can assist with preparing for any upcoming events (Solo/Ensemble, a musical, etc.). We can also spend our lesson time on items of interest that may have been covered but not done extensively in lessons. Please let me know so I can plan accordingly.

•    Any make-ups previously owed must be taken before the 30 days is up or be forfeited.
•    If you decide not to take lessons during this period, payment for the 30 days is still due and no refunds will be given. Please notify me if you will not be coming to these lessons.
•    Students who miss 1 lesson within this period will be removed from the schedule immediately and the remaining lessons will be forfeited. There will be no make-ups.
•    Students are responsible for paying the full 30-day period according to payment policy.
•    If a student terminates lessons and decides at a later time to return, any changes in my policy and prices that occurred during the lapse in lessons will be in effect.
•    Students terminated due to not showing for 2 consecutive lessons or for 3 lessons in a semester will not receive any make-ups
